Take a few minutes to read all the stories, even if you did not enter the contest (some Inkers did!). It's fascinating to see how creative minds put unique spins on the same prompt.

Yikes, what a twisted ending!

I like that you worked so much humanity into the story (which is hard to do when you only have 750 words). And I thought the confusion about the armadillo was a nice touch, too.

That's me, twisted! We Texans love it when we can work an armadillo into a story.

My trusted crit partner helped me clarify the scene shifts, and I'm done!

Yours is pretty twisted too, ya know!

Inkers, check out my final version (and, more respectfully than this irresistible smiley implies, all the WD stories based on the "circus rolled into town" prompt) at the link shown in my first post.

yuck

Doesn't say . . . . The last time I entered one of WD's Promptly blog's contests was back in November (a one-line caption to a photo prompt), again with the winner to be published in the magazine. Zac announced at the time they would pick the top 10 and announce those in the blog, from which commentators could vote their favorite, but that has yet to happen. So I think it takes them months and months. . . . And that was for a single line.

This process is teaching me patience. To say nothing of humility. . . .

Sleep
